Ascension Industries Earns KGS / MOCIE Pressure Vessel Certification For South Korea

18 April 2007 - Ascension Industries announced that it has earned KGS / MOCIE (Korea Gas Safety Corporation / Ministry Of Commerce, Industry and Energy) Certification, as required for import of Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers and related equipment into South Korea.

South Korean Industrial Expansion

The Republic of Korea (South Korea) is presently expanding its industrial cold-box (cryogenic liquid gases) capacity to meet the countries growing industrial needs. However, the country’s limited domestic cold box production capacity is expected to be insufficient to meet market demand in the near future. Primary industries requiring cold box technology are automobile, electronics and specialty metals.

Much of Koreas’ cold box expansion is currently supported by major American specialty gas suppliers and compressor manufacturers. These US firms are major markets for and customers of Ascension Industries Pressure Vessels Division.

KGS / MOCIE Pressure Vessel Certification

In the recent past, South Korea has suffered a number of catastrophic incidents due to the import of low quality pressure equipment. In 2003, in response to this problem, the Korean Government’s Ministry Of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) and Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) developed the "High-Pressure Gas Safety Management Law". This regulation currently controls the manufacture of all pressure vessels, heat exchangers and equipment imported into Korea.

In April of 2006, KGS revised the regulation, and since November 27, 2006, all pressure vessel manufacturers require KGS Factory Registration / Certification in order to import into South Korea. This certification mandates that Korean officials inspect and audit the manufacturers’ pressure vessel production facility and quality management program. Following a successful audit, the manufacturer may then be presented with KGS Certification in Seoul, South Korea. Each MOCIE Certificate is valid for a period of 3 years.

Ascension Industries KGS / MOCIE Pressure Vessel Certification

Ascension Industries invested significant time and money in completing the KGS / MOCIE Pressure Vessel Audit, in order to earn the certificate. The rigorously controlled process requires the implementation of an ISO compliant Quality Management System, or ISO Registration, and requires about 1 year to complete.

During April 2007, Ascension Industries completed the KGS Pressure Vessel Audit process, and company officials were presented with a MOCIE Pressure Vessel Factory Registration Certificate, in Seoul.
