Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems supersede traditional water washing or bubble washing equipment to achieve highly efficient separation of clarified methyl-ester (biodiesel) from the transesterified process stream. They use a unique magnesium silicate dry wash procedure to achieve production of high quality biodiesel fuel, capable of meeting or exceeding ASTM-D6571 requirements. Pilot Scale Testing Facilities are availble to validate product specifications for Your specific biodiesel process*.

In the dry washing step, impurities are adsorbed onto a finely divided silicate particulate, which must then be filtered from suspension in the biodiesel. The clarified biodiesel product will then be ready for end-use, and the solid by-product may be sold for a variety of uses including animal feed, fertilizer...

The optimum choice of filter technology depends on the size of the biodiesel production operation and several other process factors. Typically, Filter Presses represent the most cost-effective solution, but for highly automated biodiesel plant, or process stream temperatures exceeding 170F, Pressure Leaf Filters are preferred.

Durco Biodiesel / Dry Washing Pressure Leaf Filters, with dry cake discharge, are available in a range of sizes and configurations. Note that every Durco Pressure Leaf Filter is custom-optimized for peak performance in the specific biodiesel plant that it is commisioned for.

Durco DHC Model (Horizontal Vessel, Dry Cake Discharge) Pressure Leaf Filters, for biodiesel dry wash filtration, allow full process automation and are suitable for large volume plant. Horizontal Pressure Leaf Filters offer the greatest filtration area to maximize biodiesel flow rates, compared to Vertical Pressure Leaf Filters.

Durco DV Model (Vertical Vessel, Dry Cake Discharge) Pressure Leaf Filters, for biodiesel dry wash filtration, also allow full process automation and are suitable for large volume production. These cleverly designed Vertical Pressure Leaf Filters impose a much smaller process footprint compared to Horizontal Pressure Leaf Filters. The leaves are automatically cleaned using a high frequency vibrator. Options include a cone bottom discharge or a quick-opening cover, tailings leaf for increased recovery, and external discharge manifold to reduce cake build-up.

Durco Biodiesel Pressure Leaf Filters have no temperature or pressure limitations for biodiesel processing applications, with no risk of high temperature damage to the filter plates (filter leaves).

However, Pressure Leaf Filters impose a longer lead time and higher capital cost than Filter Presses. They also require more in-depth user training.

Dry Washing & Filtration For Biodiesel And Other Applications

Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing And Filtration Systems are available as complete turnkey packages. Individual filter units can also be integrated into existing biodiesel production, or indeed any general silicate (ex. Magnesol or Trisyl Silica) filtering plant.
