16 May 2007 - Ascension Industries, Inc. have announced the introduction of their Durco range of Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems. This new range of biodiesel processing equipment uses a unique Dry Wash Process to enable manufacture of high quality product (capable of meeting or exceeding ASTM-D6571 requirements) from a wide range of biodiesel feedstocks including; yellow grease, tallow, canola oil, palm oil, rapeseed oil, soybean oil, waste vegetable oil (wvo), etc.

The new Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing System supersedes traditional water washing or bubble washing equipment to achieve highly efficient separation of the feed stock into methyl-ester (biodiesel), and particulate containing the glycerol, and other impurity components. This biodiesel dry washing step employs a magnesium silicate mixing and adsorption process to quickly separate these contaminants away from the biodiesel product.

A Choice Of 2 Filtration Technologies For Biodiesel Plant

A Filtration Step then removes the contaminated adsorbent and all other particulate down as far as 1 micron. This is achieved by using proven Durco Biodiesel Equipment filtration units from one of 2 different technologies:

Extended solid capture can be achieved using downstream Tubular Filter Technology.

A wide range of suspended solids (typically 1-2% by weight of the process stream) may be removed, with the optimum choice of filter technology depending on the size of the biodiesel production operation, and several other process factors. Fully automated operation and an optional fail-safe bag filter station are also offered.

Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems reduce overall biodiesel production time and cost because they completely eliminate the need for an oil/water emulsion separation stage or a drying stage. This also significantly reduces biodiesel plant start-up and operating costs by eliminating the capital and maintenance associated with the traditional washing equipment. Additionally, these highly efficient and more environmentally friendly biodiesel processing systems have no water effluent waste streams, which are normally hazardous by-products of traditional biodiesel washing and drying techniques.

Turnkey Biodiesel Washing & Filtering Or Filtration Plant Upgrade

Ascension offers Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing And Filtration Systems as complete turnkey packages, but can also provide individual filter units into existing biodiesel production or indeed any general silicate (ex.Magnesol or Trisyl Silica) filtering plant. In fact, by choosing the optimum Durco filtration technology, any dry washing or other particulate filtering system can be configured to handle a wide range of flow rates.

Durco advanced biodiesel washing and filtration systems can be rated for production environments which are classified as either non-explosion proof or explosion-proof areas. They are operator-friendly units, appropriate for multiple, short, or intermittent batch processing, efficiently eliminating hazardous waste products and quickly removing impurities from the process stream.
