Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems supersede traditional water washing or bubble washing equipment to achieve highly efficient separation of the transesterified biodiesel process stream into clarified biodiesel (methyl-ester) end-product and recyclable by-product.

Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems reduce overall biodiesel production time and cost because they completely eliminate the need for an oil/water emulsion separation stage or a drying stage. This also significantly reduces biodiesel plant start-up and operating costs by eliminating the capital and maintenance associated with the traditional washing equipment. Additionally, these highly efficient and more environmentally friendly biodiesel processing systems have no water effluent waste streams, which are normally hazardous by-products of traditional biodiesel washing and drying techniques.
Durco Biodiesel Dry Washing Procedure
The dry washing step employs a magnesium silicate mixing and adsorption process to quickly separate contaminants away from the purified biodiesel product:

Following transesterification, the unwashed biodiesel stream is sent to the mixing tank. Here a small amount of magnesium silicate adsorbant is intimately combined with the unpurified biodiesel to complete the "dry-washing" process.
After this short dry washing step, the process stream is then sent through a biodiesel filter that separates the purified biodiesel liquid from the solid dry wash adsorbant that is now loaded with impurities. The clean biodiesel product is now ready for storage and the solid by-product may be sold for a variety of uses including animal feed & fertilizer.
A Choice Of 2 Filtration Technologies For Biodiesel Plant
Following the Dry Washing Step, a Filtration Step then removes the contaminated adsorbent, and all other particulate as small as 1 micron, using one of 2 highly proven technologies:

A wide range of suspended solids (typically 2-3%, by weight) may be removed, with the optimum choice of filter technology depending on the size of the biodiesel production operation and several other process factors.
